This week, 7th-13th February 2022, is Children’s Mental Health Week.

Children’s Mental Health Week is run by children’s mental health charity Place2Be to focus on the importance of looking after our emotional wellbeing from an early age. This year’s theme is ‘GROWING TOGETHER’. Human beings change and grow – we do it all the time and in many different ways. Physical growth is easy to see as we grow from babies to children, teenagers to adults. We grow intellectually as we gain new knowledge, skills, and understanding at school, and beyond.

The theme: ‘Growing Together’, consists of encouraging children and adults to acknowledge how they’ve grown and how they can help others grow. We will be encouraging all of our young people to reflect on their journey and how they can help the year below them grow and adapt to our Kinetic Academy programme.

1 in 6 children and young people have a diagnosable mental health problem, and many more struggle with challenges from bullying to bereavement; 80% of young people with mental health needs agreed that the coronavirus pandemic had made their mental health worse. It is crucial that we provide them with support from a young age as one-third of mental health problems in adulthood are directly connected to an adverse childhood experience. Therefore, we are dedicated to helping the young people involved in our programmes to develop strong mental health to support them through school, college, university, and future employment.
