Kinetic Academy players took part in a ‘Zonal Defending’ session delivered by Ray Lewington for the Surrey Football Coaches Association last night at Motspur Park, the training ground of Premier League club Fulham FC.

Ray Lewington: “I really enjoyed last night. I thought the young people from Kinetic Academy who took part in the training session were excellent and made the session go smoothly!”

Ray gave an incredible insight into the art of defending including defensive structure, managing a low block when playing against an opposition who will control the majority of the possession and how to effectively cover spaces to stop the opposition hurting you. He also discussed how defending has changed over the last 10 years. Ray has played, coached and managed at the highest level. He played over 400 games in his career, at Chelsea, Wimbledon, Fulham and Sheffield United. Ray managed Fulham, Crystal Palace, Brentford and Watford as well as 4 years as assistant manager of both the England National Team and Crystal Palace alongside Roy Hodgson.

After the delivery of the training session there was a Q&A with Surrey Football Coaches Association members who had the opportunity to pose questions to Ray Lewington.
